How interesting. I would have said that swimming was like riding a bicycle - once you've learned you don't really forget - but I would have been wrong.
I learnt how to swim twice. How is it possible to forget how to swim? But it obviously is. Went to swimming-school at Ronneby Brunn the second time, the first time must have been off the coast in Blekinge.

I think you should do it if you think you'd enjoy it, Aleks, and continue if you do. But I realise it's not for everyone.

Your making up hours for CAS reminds me of when I was in secondary school. It wasn't an IB school of course (so no CAS) but sports, though compulsory, did have some wriggle room. Swimming wasn't an option, but to get out of football or gymnastics I and some equally unsporty friends signed up for tennis. We had minimal supervision and played on an out-door court even in the depths of winter. (To be sure, English winters are not as deep as Swedish ones, but we certainly played on snow on at least one occasion.) It was the best of several unpleasant alternatives, and I wouldn't do it again. No, not even if someone I know wrote a blog entry in praise of tennis that was considerably better than mine about swimming. :-)

When living in Borås I used to go swimming twice a week to fill up my CAS (activity section). I remeber I hated the cold water (as I still do) but like your friend Kristina above wrote, there is something meditative about swimming length after length, just blocking out all other thoughts except those making you concentrate on your movements. I learned to like swimming. I don't go swimming now on a regular basis but perhaps I should check up on the possibilites?

Åh du påminner mig om att jag tycker om att simma. Eller jag gjorde det för många år sedan åtminstonde. Det där metodiska i att simma längd efter längd, räkna och nästan komma in i ett meditativt tillstånd. Härligt! Keep it ut!
